It is present in a wide variety cell types of normal human fetal and adult tissues and is frequently overexpressed in human carcinomas (e.g. in 20-30% cases of breast cancer cells). Activation of ErbB2 triggers intracellular signalling events, which are essential for cell growth and differentiation.
