Background: Fenitrothion is an insecticide belonging to the group of organophosphothioates. It is found on fruits, vegetables and in the environment. It has adverse effects on algae and mammals due to its biological activity as acetylcholine esterase inhibitor. In organisms living in surface water it may have and endocrine (thyroidal) effect.
