Background: Human hematopoetic malignancies are often characterized by gene rearrangements that deregulate gene expression. Antibodies to human bcl-2 (B cell leukemia/lymphoma 2) are directed against the gene isolated at the chromosomal breakpoint t(14;18) Bcl-2 which suppress programmed cell death (apoptosis) and appears to be modulated by association with bax, a cell death promoter.
