Thiol-containing dideoxynucleoside triphosphates (α-S-ddNTPs) incorporated into allele-specific primers prevent complete digestion by 5'-phosphodiesterase, which allows for alkylation and identification of SNP-containing alleles.{67351} ddGTP-α-S has been used for chain extension using a mutated polymerase selective for dideoxynucleotides and chain termination in allele-specific PCR assays.{51318,67351} ddGTP-α-S is a mixture of Rp and Sp isomers.
