Anti-Rat CD8a PE (Clone OX-8) (mouse IgG1)

Cedarlane's anti-ratT cytotoxic/suppressor cell monoclonal antibodies recognize a determinant onthe majority of thymocytes (90-95%), a subset of peripheral T cells, themajority of NK cells, and the granular intraepithelial leukocytes in the smallintestine (1,2,3,4). The antigen recognized is a complex of surfaceglycoproteins of Mr 34, 39, and 76 kDa and is the rat homologue of the humanCD8 and the mouse Ly 2.3 antigen (5,8). Clone OX-8 labels all peripheral Tcells that are unlabelled by clone W3/25 (CL003). It labels a T cell subsetwhich mediates the suppression of antibody formation (1) and the cytotoxic cellprecursor (2). OX-8 and W3/25 can be used together to fractionate T cells bysorting in FACS or by rosette depletion (1,2) or can be used together to studysubsets of T cells in the rat which mediate lethal graft versus host disease(7). This antibody is one of the 3 monoclonal antibodies which labels Tlymphocyte populations in rat, these being clone W3/13 (CL002) which labels allT cells, as well as clones W3/25 and OX-8 which label non-overlapping T cellpopulations. These monoclonal antibodies used in concert are being employedextensively to investigate cellular aspects of the immune response in rats andprove to be useful as markers for functionally distinct subpopulations oflymphocytes. This clone is reported to work with frozen and paraffin sections(9).
