The iLite® hCG Assay Ready Cells can be used for the quantification of hCG activity, or neutralizing antibody response against hCG in test samples, including human serum.
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy and the hormone can also be used clinically to induce ovulation in the ovaries as part of a fertility treatment. hCG can be used as a tumor marker as its β subunit is secreted by certain types of cancer cells.
The assay ready iLite® hCG cells are human HEK293 cells (ATCC# CRL1573) which have been genetically engineered and optimized to be responsive to human chronic gonadoptroption (hCG), resulting in a proportional expression of Firefly Luciferase. Normalization of cell counts, and serum matrix effects is obtained by a second reporter gene, a Renilla Luciferase reporter gene construct, under control of a constitutive promotor.
