Additional info: CD33, also known as gp67 or SIGLEC-3, is a 67 kDa glycosylated transmembrane protein that is a member of the sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin (siglec) family. Although the precise physiological function of CD33 is unknown, it may mediate cell to cell adhesion and modulate inflammatory and immune response. In normal tissue, anti-CD33 labels myeloid cells (especially myeloid precursors), liver Kupffer cells, lung alveolar macrophages, and placental syncytiotrophoblasts. In neoplastic tissue, anti-CD33 is useful for the identification of acute myeloid leukemia.
