Background: LATS1 (Large Tumor Suppressor homolog 1) has been identified as a tumor suppressor protein linked to sarcomas and ovarian cancer. LATS1 is a member of the Dbf2-related (NDR) family of protein kinases that are key components of the mitotic exit network. LATS1 interacts with MOB1 and CDC2 kinase in early mitosis. LATS1 appears to negatively regulate G2/M transitioning by down-regulating CDC2 kinase activity.
