Background: Pumilio 2 is a germline specific RNA binding protein that functions as a translational regulator by binding 3’ UTR elements. Pumilio 2 and its homolog Pumiolio 1 are highly evolutionarily conserved proteins that appear to function in germline maintenance. Pumilio 2 has been shown to interact with DAZL, a protein required for germ cell development.
