Background: STAT6 is part of the STAT (signal transducers and activators of transcription) family of transcription factors that relays signals from cytokine receptors to the nucleus where they act as transcriptional activators. STAT6 mediates signals that originate from the IL-4 receptor via JAKs (Janus Kinases) and activates a gene program involved in B- and T- cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis.
