Background: Zinc-fingers and homeoboxes protein 1 (ZHX1) is part of a gene family of transcriptional repressors that interacts with the nuclear factor Y (NF-Y) or CCAAT-binding protein (CBF) heterotrimeric transcription factor. ZHX1 contains two zinc-fingers and five homeodomain motifs. ZHX1 can form homodimers or heterodimers with ZHX2 and ZHX3.
