Technical Advantage: Effective against both Gram-positive and -negative bacteria
Kanamycin is a member of the aminoglycosides a group of molecules and interacts with the 30S subunit of prokaryotic ribosomes. It induces errors in translation and thus hinders protein synthesis. The KanR-Tn5 gene product (aminoglycoside phosphotransferase) confers resistance to kanamycin. Kanamycin Sulfate is effective against Gram-negative and -positive bacteria.
