It synthesizes and secretes neurohormones, that stimulate or inhibit the secretion of pituitary hormones. The hypothalamus controls body temperature, hunger, thirst, fatigue, and circadian cycles. Rat hypothalamus neurons are a useful tool in the study of neuroendocrine-related diseases and disorders.
