Antibodies to oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein (oxLDL) have been reported in a variety of vascular diseases with manifestation of atherosclerosis.
An elevated level of antibodies to oxLDL has been found in coronary artery disease (CAD), antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), endometriosis, diabetes, hypertension and in those predisposed to arteriosclerosis.
Heart antibodies, as demonstrated by IFA, have been reported in 40% of patients with proven biopsy myocarditis and in 20% of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy.
Only 4% of patients with ischemic heart disease are positive for heart antibodies.
These autoantibodies generally produce three types of staining reactions:
... whereby the so-called fibrillar pattern is generated.
