Endocrinology

Thyroid diseases:

Thyroglobulin (Tg) and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO)

The range of thyroid autoimmune diseases is very wide: patients can be hyper-, hypo- or euthyroid.

There are 2 main forms of autoimmune thyroid disease:

  1. Graves' disease
  2. Hashimoto's thyroiditis

Both diseases are characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the thyroid tissue.

Thyroid disorders are often associated with the autoantibodies thyroglobulin (Tg) and thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO).

Type I Diabetes:

Islet cell antibodies (ICAb)

Antibodies against islets of Langerhans usually occur in type I diabetes, very rarely in type II diabetes. Islet cell antibodies can occur years before the clinical symptoms of diabetes and eventually disappear after the clinical onset of type I diabetes.

Determination of antibodies in endocrine autoimmune diseases

Thyroid:

  • Thyroglobulin (Tg) Antibodies
  • Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO)
  • TSH Receptor Antibodies
  • Thyroid hormones
    • fT3
    • fT4
    • TSH (Thyrotropin)

Type I diabetes:

  • Islet Cell Antibodies (ICAb)
  • Primate Pancreas
