Background: The SWI/SNF-related, matrix-associated, actin-dependent regulators of chromatin (SMARC), also called BRG1-associated factors (BAFs), have been identified as components of the human SWI/SNF-like chromatin-remodeling protein complexes. BAF57/SMARCE1 is a core subunit found in all SWI/SNF complexes. The BAF57/SMARCE1 subunit has been demonstrated to interact with the estrogen receptor (ER) and is required for the coactivation of ER-mediated gene transcription.
