Background: Zinc-finger and BTB domain-containing protein 7A (ZBTB7A) binds IST (inducer of short transcript) DNA elements in the HIV promoter to facilitate short transcript synthesis. ZBTB7A identified as LRF also interacts with the LAZ-3/BCL-6 oncoprotein. Because ZBTB7A also contains a POZ domain it may serve a function in chromatin remodeling.
