Description: IL-5 functions as a growth factor in hematopoiesis, fostering the proliferation and activation of eosinophils. Its production primarily stems from mast cells, T cells, and eosinophils themselves. IL-5 plays a pivotal role in bolstering cell-mediated immunity against parasitic infections and specific tumors. Elevated IL-5 levels correlate with eosinophilia, a condition associated with the onset of asthma and other allergic disorders. Notably, both human and murine IL-5 exhibit cross-species reactivity. Recombinant Human IL-5 constitutes a 26.5 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric protein, comprised of two 116 amino acid chains.
