Doxylamine is an antihistamine.{66690,66691} It selectively inhibits contractions induced by histamine (Item No. 33828) over acetylcholine (ACh; Item No. 23829) in isolated guinea pig ileum (IC50s = 0.01 and 0.58 µg/ml, respectively).{66692} Doxylamine (2-4 mg/kg) protects rabbits against anaphylaxis induced by beef serum antigen.{66691} It reduces ethanol-induced deficits in behavior performance in rats when administered at a dose of 60 mg/kg.{66693} Formulations containing doxylamine have been used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women and insomnia.
