Dimethylation of adjacent adenosine nucleosides (m62Am62A) is found in E. coli 16S rRNA and is important for the initiation of protein synthesis.{62682} N6,N6-Dimethyladenosine inhibits the proliferation of L1210 leukemia cells in vitro (IC50 = 0.5 µg/ml) but does not have antitumor activity in vivo.{62682} It is also a component of the antibiotic and protein synthesis inhibitor puromycin (Item No. 13884).
