Background: 3BP2 (SH3 binding protein 2) was identified as a protein binding to the SH3 domain of the Abl proto-oncogene. Murine 3BP2 cDNA encodes a 559 amino acid protein of 85 kDa consisting of an N-terminal PH domain, a C-terminal SH2 domain and intervening proline-rich sequences. 3BP2 interacts via its Sh2 domain with Syk family protein tyrosine kinases Syk, Zap70, Grb2, Cbl, PLC 1 and LAT in T lymphocytes and contributes to the transcriptional activation of NF-AT and AP-1. Mouse 3BP2 is 66% homologous to the human protein at the amino acid level.
